Though Mr. Brown’s book of the same title (and the inspiration for the blog) had a predictable ending, the digital world is far from such conclusions. And the quote from Mr. Drucker says it all “Marketing & innovation produce results and rests are all costs.
My digital journey started in 2003, when three like-minded souls wanted to change the way India buys travel. They wanted to put the power into the hands of the user. MakeMyTrip continues to reinvent the landscape; the recent merger make it a monopoly in this space.
My good fortune to be a part of this transformation, through digital.
2005-2008 were exciting times. Google was at the forefront, SEO was hot, Yahoo and MSN were a competition. Facebook and Orkut wouldn’t yield any result. Media was fragmented.
2010 onward till 2014 was like the movie after the movie intermission, dominated by eCommerce and ever increasing spends. Mobile apps had become the corner stone for digital experience. iPhones dominated.
I believe starting 2016 is the most exciting times. Facebook becomes formidable, Android is now in reckoning and Mr. Jobs is no more. I miss him. Google Pixel has promise and the world has its first steps towards the AI. Little scary though, our world may be like a end-of-the-world, where machine are ruling humans needing a superhero to show the world.
Digital world hasn’t been more interesting; it is no longer digital marketing or digital transformation. The new e-world is waiting to unfold, where marketing exists in clouds!
